Two Olive Trees 2

Zecharia 4
2 And [the Angel] said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

Here we have an incomprehensible image, with no, earthly, explanation. But the Angel does provide heavenly explanations:

More From Zecharia 4
6 Then [the Angel] spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

And More From Zecharia 4
14 Then said [the Angel], These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the LORD of the whole earth.

I've given the olive trees some thought, and have come to the conclusion that they represent Zerubabbel and Joshua the priest, part of the glorious Hebrew post-exilic history. I note that there are other, and probably, better interpretations.

But, the question for me is this: What is God's purpose in giving us the book of Zechariah? Maybe, it is to give us a better understanding of the Hebrews, God's first chosen people.  Maybe, it is to give us some insight into, some little understanding of the book of Revelations....maybe some insight into, some little understanding of the second coming of Christ.

Revelations 11
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks.....

Almost forgot.  The two pipes are Ezra and Nehemiah.
