Notes and Thoughts On The Analogy Of Faith 2

Here are some additional notes and thoughts on the Analogy of Faith.

John 5
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

In John 5, Jesus first heals a certain man who had an infirmity thirty and eight years at the sheep pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem.  Jesus then speaks to the Jews. And verse 39 of this chapter is part of the basis for the Analogy Of Faith. Here is John Calvin's comment:

From Calvin's Commentaries on John 5
We ought to believe that Christ cannot be properly known in any other way than from the Scriptures; and if it be so, it follows that we ought to read the Scriptures with the express design of finding Christ in them.

Stated in another way, we can find Jesus' explicit presence in the Bible, in both the New Testament and the Old Testament. Moreover, each passage of the Old Testament, contains divine Gospel truth, messages to church-age Christians about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

I think we can also add this. Divine Gospel truth is God's one, timeless message to all of mankind, to Noah, to Abraham, to Moses, to the Apostles and to all poor Church-age Christians.

The Second Coming, That Most Profound, Complicated And Difficult Subject

John 5
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

Well, maybe the subject of the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is not that complicated, or difficult. It is profound, though....

And, don't forget. This passage has a second subject. And that is the argument for the equality of Jesus and God. Jesus is, God the son.

Quickened - In A Cedar Hill, Texas, Wal Mart

John 5
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

Definition of Quicken From Webster's 1828 Dictionary:
1. Primarily, to make alive; to vivify; to revive or resuscitate, as from death or an inanimate state. Rom. 4.
2. To make alive in a spiritual sense; to communicate a principle of grace to.
3. To hasten; to accelerate; as, to quicken motion, speed or flight.
4. To sharpen; to give keener perception to; to stimulate; to incite; as, to quicken the appetite or taste; to quicken desires.
5. To revive; to cheer; to reinvigorate; to refresh by new supplies of comfort or grace.

And So It Began
I was quickened one afternoon, in a Cedar Hill, Texas, Wal Mart, in the 1990's. I bought a paperback NIV Bible. And that evening, for whatever reason, I read every reference to Baptism I could find. And so, my journey began....
